Many incidents have been reported to FCM, but no notice is sent to residents. Most involve packages being stolen. However, now 4240 has had several thefts and serious security breaches: April 20, April 7, March 12, January 31, and January 10. (see links to pics below)
ANOTHER BREAK-IN AT 4240 on April 20!
There was another break-in around 1:15am on April 20, 2025. This thief also does not ever touch intercom. Like thief on April 7, he was NOT buzzed in. IT IS UNCLEAR HOW HE GOT BOTH DOORS OPEN. Amazon did a delivery at 5pm, and all packages were taken a few hours later.
The April 20 thief looks very similar to April 7 thief.
PICS OF THIEF BREAKING IN APRIL 20
NOTE: Police were at 4240 around 7:30am on April 20 and were heard pounding on a door on 3rd floor of Tier 8 in northern rear corner of building. This appears to be unrelated to thief breaking in.
The incident on April 7 shows that 4240's doors can be pulled open without door being buzzed open from intercom. THIS IS VERY BAD.
Elite Intercom update: There is an app that Amazon uses called KFB (Key For Business) that enables delivery to buzz into buildings. It appears that someone at 4240 N. Clarendon has enabled this app. That is why the guy uses his phone: to buzz himself into building to steal packages. DOES ANYONE HAVE A TRACKING NUMBER FOR A PACKAGE DELIVERED BY AMAZON APRIL 7? Amazon says it could help track the thief.
On April 7 around 10:45pm, this thief yanked open both of 4240's doors without ever touching the intercom, only calling on his cell phone. In the past, this would not enable anyone to be buzzed in. The call had to come from the intercom. But this guy pulls both doors right open and goes directly to the shelf of packages. He pulls out a big bag, fills it and even walks by someone watching him exit the lobby. Does anyone have time to study security camera footage APRIL 7 around 10:45pm to see how this guy gets in?
On March 12, 2025, around 9:15 am, a resident confronted an individual defecating in laundry room garbage can. He then started yelling and taking packages before he dragged his full cart up the stairs and out the door.
Actually, he was buzzed in 7:45pm on March 11. I asked FCM to tell folks to escort guests to the door so they can't steal on their way out.
On January 31, 2025, a man entered 4240 with a key, picked up a package with $200 steam cleaner that was not his and proceeded up Tier 4 stairs. FCM said it was a privacy matter concerning what tenants are in Tier 4.
On January 10, 2025, an individual was able to kick the front door hard enough to jar lock so he could yank front outer door open. Something about the door caught his eye as he passed the building (perhaps the metal plate on door from all the lock changes?) so he stepped back to work his technique of kicking into door hard enough to loosten latchbolt so that door could be pulled open. He tried his same trick on inner lobby doors, but he could not yank them open since those locks have not been altered like the one on the front door. He filled a large bag with packages and also took a very large one that was propped against the wall on his way out. Residents were never notified.
On September 21, 2024, two men were buzzed in and went up Tier 4 stairs. One of them spent the night in the common areas and vandalized the laundry room door. FCM blamed us for letting strangers in.
It appears that there are unauthorized tenants or maybe an Airbnb in Tier 4. But FCM says it is a matter of privacy what tenants are living there.
